Postdoctoral Position in Electrochemical Energy Storage
We are pleased to announce a postdoctoral position in the field of electrochemical energy storage at the Organic Energy Materials Group, Laboratory of Organic Electronics, Campus Norrköping, Linköping University.
Subject Area
You will be part of the Organic Energy Materials (OEM) Group, led by Professor Reverant Crispin. The research group focuses on the design and development of organic and bio-based materials with tailored functionalities for energy transport, energy conversion, and energy storage, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and environmentally friendly technologies.
The OEM group is part of the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) (https://liu.se/LOE (https://liu.se/LOE)), an internationally recognized research environment with more than 150 researchers from various scientific disciplines. LOE offers state-of-the-art research infrastructure, including clean rooms, advanced chemistry laboratories, bio-laboratories, and photonics laboratories (see: https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics/our-labs (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics/our-labs)).
Within the OEM group, there are extensive facilities for battery research, covering the entire workflow from material synthesis to electrode manufacturing, as well as assembly and testing of complete cells. The laboratory is equipped for the production of coin cells both under ambient atmosphere and in glove boxes with inert atmosphere. The group also has access to battery cyclers, potentiostats, and electrochemical measurement systems for detailed characterization of energy storage devices' performance and stability.
Your Responsibilities
You will conduct independent and advanced research in the field of biomass-based materials for sustainable energy storage, with a particular focus on sodium and zinc-based battery systems. Your tasks will include the development, synthesis, and characterization of bio-based electrode materials, such as carbon materials derived from lignin, cellulose, and other biomass resources, as well as their integration into electrochemical energy storage devices.
You are expected to plan, conduct, and analyze experimental studies, including material synthesis, structural and chemical characterization, as well as electrochemical evaluation of performance and stability in Na- and Zn-based batteries. Your tasks will also include data analysis, method development, and systematic documentation of research results.
Furthermore, you are expected to actively contribute to scientific dissemination, including writing scientific publications in international, peer-reviewed journals and presenting research results at national and international conferences. Participation in research meetings, involvement in project development, and preparation of materials for future external research applications are also part of your responsibilities.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Some teaching may be included in your tasks, but no more than 20% of the working time.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or possess a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. The doctoral degree must have been obtained no later than the time Linköping University makes a decision on employment.
It is advantageous if the doctoral degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons for an older degree, such as parental leave, sick leave, or other statutory leave, this will be considered in accordance with applicable regulations.
The doctoral degree should be in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field, with documented experience in electrochemical energy storage, battery materials, or related research areas. Experience with biomass-based materials, carbon materials, sodium-ion or zinc-based batteries, and electrochemical characterization is particularly meritorious.
The applicant should demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research and have a good ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary research environment. Personal qualities such as initiative, problem-solving ability, good organizational skills, and scientific curiosity are highly valued.
Good proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement, as English is the working language in the research environment. Knowledge of Swedish is not a requirement but is considered an advantage.
About the Position
